CHART: The Total Recordable Case rate for illness and injury has declined significantly since 1994.
Workplace safety has been steadily improving since OSHA was created. This is the product of various factors including employers and employees working together to increase emphasis on safety and reduce accidents. Through its regulations and enforcement activities, the agency has established requirements employers must meet. Beginning in the Clinton administration, OSHA also developed an array of approaches that focused on educating and working cooperatively with employers to impove workplace safety. The CWS is committed to supporting approaches that have resulted in the increase in workplace safety as indicated by the BLS workplace injuries and illness rates presented here.
