On July 31, several Senators introduced the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, ill-conceived legislation that will have wide-reaching and damaging consequences for the economy. Last session of Congress, dozens of employer organizations, including CWS in both May and October 2024, wrote letters to the Senate emphasizing the breadth of the bill’s impact and the serious consequences it would have if implemented.
The following statement can be attributed to CWS spokesperson Lauren Williams:
“Despite its narrow sounding title, the Warehouse Worker Protection Act will impact workplaces across the economy and in nearly every industry. It prohibits the use of valuable workplace metrics that help keep workers safe and businesses operating effectively. It also forces the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to implement an unworkable ergonomics rule. The last time OSHA attempted to regulate ergonomics in the workplace, it proved so costly, unduly burdensome, and ineffective that Congress blocked the rule on a bipartisan basis. CWS urges the Senate to reject this ill-conceived legislation.”
